On Saturday, May 18, at 2:00 p.m., we are excited to welcome Thea Hopkins for a special concert at Ventress Memorial Library. A member of Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe of Martha’s Vineyard MA, performing songwriter Thea Hopkins calls her music Red Roots Americana. She has been described as a “standout writer” by the Washington Post. Thea is an award winning writer and musician who plays a mix of both traditional and contemporary Indigenous music at festivals and other venues across the country.
Many fans have commented on the beauty of Thea's vocals and lyrics. That sentiment was perhaps most succinctly stated by a former Bob Dylan tour manager, who described Thea Hopkins as "k.d. lang meets Leonard Cohen." In addition to Aquinnah Wampanoag, Hopkins ' ancestry includes Nottoway (Iroquois), African American, Irish and Portuguese. In other words, Red Roots Americana. This concert is free and open to the public.
