Join us for a special author talk with local historian Jim Glinski! Little did the many militiamen of Marshfield who responded to the call to arms in April 1775 realize the momentous historical event they were about to engage in. In his recent book, Tale of Two Towns: Scituate and Marshfield During the American Revolution 1763-1790, Glinski describes how 250 years ago the two towns responded to events of this important historical period. As America celebrates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution over the next several years, his presentation will focus on the events and people of Marshfield both during the years leading up to the American Revolution and during the Revolutionary War. It will highlight the conflict between the town’s Tory elite and Patriots, how the militia of Marshfield answered the call to arms in the first crucial years of the Revolutionary War and the continued service of some of its soldiers in the new created Continental Army, along with the important role its sailors played in the war at sea. His presentation will also spotlight a few residents who played a major role in the town’s actions during the period, while noting the sacrifices that many of the people of Marshfield and their families made in support of the Patriot cause.
